Su Buffulittu

Su buffulitu is a kind of fruit cake garnished with walnuts, hazelnuts, raisins and colored sprinkles. In the village of Teti, this desssert was specially prepared on the feast of Saint Anthony the Abbot.

1 kg of flour
1 kg of sugar
500 g of honey
2 kg of walnuts and hazelnuts
1 kg of raisins
200 g of lard
anise seed to taste
little colored sprinkles for the garnish

Melt the lard and honey in warm water. Combine the flour with the sugar in a bowl, then add the melted lard and honey. When the mixture is well worked and homogeneous, gradually incorporate the dried fruit, raisins and anise seed.

When all the ingredients are combined, form the desserts into shapes which should resemble small bread loaves. Cover them with a cloth and let them rest overnight. Finally, the next day cook them in the oven at 200 degrees for about an hour. To finish, drizzle with a powdered sugar glaze and decorate with colored sprinkles.
