A jar of honey mirrors all the aromas and flavors which bees encounter throughout their countless journeys in the nature of the Mediterranean scrub of Sardinia.
Our family’s passion for beekeeping stems from our attachment to nature and the rural way of life. Barbagia beekeeping’s methods are based on the traditional breeding of bees where rustic beehives (casiddu or moju) are formed inside the trunks of hollowed out trees. Our passion for honey and bees have guided us in adopting organic farming and production methods which have become the best weapons in fighting the modern challenges of beekeeping. The art of Barbagia beekeeping does not portray the production of honey as a simple job, but as a way of life.
The operational headquarters of our beekeeping laboratory is found in Aparadu, located within the countryside of the Teti Municipality in the province of Nuoro. This small mountain center is located on the north-west side of the Gennargentu massif in the historic Ollolai region of Barbagia. This territory is characterized by vast varieties of flora and fauna, numerous water sources, three sizable lakes, and is rich with historically important Nuragic and pre-Nuragic heritage.

Here at Barbagia Beekeeping, we only practice organic beekeeping in order to provide the highest quality products and to better adapt to the new challenges of sustainable productivity. We believe that the biological management of bees is the best way to combat the serious limitations manifested by conventional beekeeping and to meet the needs of the increasingly informed consumer market who seek quality ingredients as part of a healthy lifestyle inspired by taste and beauty.

We continuously refine our strategies in search of the best techniques to keep our bees healthy without any aid from chemical substances. Through our commitment to studying these insects, their biology, and the “schemes” which govern their wonderful society, we aim to help them flourish and produce the best possible products. Our search for quality goes beyond simply working in the apiary. The utmost care is given to the bees and the honey at every moment throughout the process from producer to consumer.

The quality of the honey that the bees produce is specifically reinforced during the early stages. The quality is particularly dependent on the attention given during the ripening and potting process. These two stages are carried out at low temperatures so as to ensure no alteration in the product and to guarantee maximum homogeneity in crystallization. Our wide selection of products include diverse types of honey such as organic mountain flower honey (chestnut and thyme), organic wild lavender honey, organic chestnut and bramble honey, organic Mediterranean wildflower honey, organic chestnut honey, organic asphodel honey, organic eucalyptus honey, honey organic thistle honey, organic bitter strawberry tree honey.
